I had a horrible dream last night! First of all, I usually never dream. Secondly, I was already tired but got onto Hulu to "wind down" and ended up watching one of my fav shows, Law and Order SVU. Gary HATES this show! Mainly b/c that's what he deals with at work and he doesn't want to watch it on TV as recreation. I watch it b/c #1, I love Stabler and Benson. and #2 it makes me feel like I kinda understand a little of why he's a nut case about stuff sometimes and what he doesn't bring home to expose me to but keeps inside all locked up. Sick right? OK, well then my DH informs me that he got Black Swan for me. WooHoo! A dance movie! Awesome! Seriously, that is about ALL I knew about it. It won a bunch of awards and it was about ballet. I figured I was in.
WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP!?!
I was shocked! I was appalled! And yet, I kept watching? I could go on and on about the garbage that is being forced down our throats through "award winning" movies, TV, documentaries, etc. But you really don't want to hear it and I'll just get myself even more pissed off. Let's just say that I am more grateful than ever to have turned off our cable. I will not be spending my money or my time on Hollywood and their agenda to destroy our families, our morals, and our country. Even if that means I miss out on "culture". I'll make my own-thank you very much! I just wasted a whole lot of time and subjected my mind and spirit to garbage. It's going to take me a lot longer to get this out. And that my friends, is the power of the Dark Side. Lying in wait.Thank goodness today is General Conference. Let the Light Shine Before Men!

Carly/I went to see Black Swan & knew it was a little dark but we both went away saying - TOO WIERD for us. Also thought it was a dance movie & would enjoy it. Good acting but not my thing either :)
i think of it like this - we've got to hold tight to the iron rod and not even "heed" the great and spacious building...don't even glance in that direction. it may seem like we are missing out on fun, culture, whatever you want to call it, but all that stuff lures and distracts us from our ultimate goal. carl and I have cut so many things out of our lives...things that were difficult to get rid of in the beginning, but now i feel the freedom that comes from doing that and also the increase in the spirit and realize that some things block that supernal gift we can always have with us IF we always remember HIM and keep His commandments! wasn't conference wonderful!!! I love how it helps me refocus on what is truly important.

I don't really miss our Directv either...except for BYUTV and the Food Network, ha ha!

Sounds like you we're more horrified.
ok, 1.so we turned off our tv (with the exception of movies) many years ago and I am thankful, we don't even have pbs (except during sporting events like football season when it would be nice to turn it on to watch)-- so i understand this totally 2. even though i was being careful about the movies my boys were watching, i was slowly realizing until it came to a head a month ago, that "IIII" was still watching total crap. So i made the change... right around conference too. 3. I've never did watch black swan but knew enuf about it that i squeezed my shoulders when i saw that u watched it and said out loud..."uh-oh, she is going to have something to say about this one!" lol! 4. wow, we are very similar!! 5. Here's to getting the rubbish out of our homes... here's to taking control of the things we can to make our homes better and full of the spirit!! HERE, HERE! Welcome home from ut! Hope is was super!!
